Prabowo: Indonesia and Germany Commit to Cooperation in Maintaining World Peace

Indonesia and Germany have committed to enhancing cooperation in maintaining global peace and stability. This commitment is crucial amidst the rise of various international conflicts. The cooperation was highlighted during a bilateral meeting between Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and President of the Federal Republic of Germany Frank-Walter Steinmeier at Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, on Monday, 15 June 2026. Indonesia and Germany are committed to continuing to prioritise diplomacy, dialogue, and international cooperation as a path to maintaining world peace. “President Steinmeier and I agree that all conflicts must be resolved through negotiation. And we are working together in the field of diplomacy to enhance and ensure global peace and stability,” said Prabowo. President Prabowo also assessed that Germany has a strategic role in maintaining world balance and encouraging the creation of a peaceful international order. Therefore, Indonesia views the partnership with Germany and the European region as very important. “The visit of the German President this time is a sign that this relationship is very important,” he said. President Steinmeier stated that his visit to Indonesia comes at a time when the world is facing complex geopolitical challenges. He believes that conflicts occurring in several regions make the partnership between Indonesia and Germany highly relevant. “I am visiting here again because in a situation where the world is shaken by violence in many regions, the partnership between Germany and Indonesia becomes very meaningful,” said Steinmeier. President Steinmeier highlighted various ongoing conflicts, ranging from war in Europe, conflict in the Middle East, to humanitarian crises in several other countries. In such a situation, both countries are considered to share a common view in upholding international law and the principles contained in the Charter of the United Nations. During the meeting, the two leaders also discussed developments in the global security situation, including the dynamics of the Indo-Pacific region which is now a focus of world attention. President Steinmeier affirmed that Germany views ASEAN as an important pillar in building regional security architecture. He also referred to Indonesia as one of the main and most important stability factors in the Southeast Asian region. Indonesia’s role is increasingly recognised in maintaining peace and regional cooperation.
