Prabowo Inaugurates Semarang Tawang Station Revitalisation, Urges Preservation of Historical Journey
Semarang, VIVA – President Prabowo Subianto inaugurated the first phase of the revitalisation of Semarang Tawang Station, stressing that the restoration of the historic station is not merely about beautifying an old building, but about safeguarding the nation’s identity and preserving the traces of Indonesia’s historical journey.
The inauguration took place during the President’s working visit to Central Java. Before government officials and PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI), Prabowo reminded the audience that Semarang Tawang Station holds great historical value, as it once formed part of the journey of Indonesia’s first President, Soekarno, in the early years of independence.
“Today we can gather here, in a place rich with historical value, to carry out the inauguration of the revitalisation of Semarang Tawang Station,” said Prabowo at Semarang Tawang Station, Central Java, on Thursday, 30 July 2026.
According to him, the building, which has stood for more than a century, holds the memory of the nation’s struggle, a legacy that must be passed on to future generations.
“My brothers and sisters, history records that the first President of the Republic of Indonesia (Soekarno) used this station to depart for other regions to carry out the duties of the state in the early days of independence,” he said.
For that reason, Prabowo believes that preserving Semarang Tawang Station carries a far greater meaning than simply maintaining a physical structure.
“That is why protecting and preserving Tawang Station means not only protecting and preserving a single building, but also safeguarding our identity, our memory, and our historical journey,” he said.
Prabowo also expressed his appreciation to PT Kereta Api Indonesia, which he judged to have moved quickly in following up his instructions to revitalise the station.
“My brothers and sisters, I extend my thanks to the President Director of Kereta Api Indonesia (Bobby Rasyidin), who took swift, responsive steps,” he affirmed.
On that occasion, Prabowo emphasised that rail transport continues to play a strategic role in supporting the development of a modern Indonesia.
“My brothers and sisters, in my view, railways continue to play a significant role in the life of a modern nation,” he said.
After delivering his remarks, the President officially inaugurated the first phase of the revitalisation of Semarang Tawang Station.
“Bismillahirrahmanirrahim, on this Thursday afternoon, 30 July 2026, I, Prabowo Subianto, President of the Republic of Indonesia, hereby inaugurate the revitalisation of Semarang Tawang Station,” he concluded.
