Prabowo Inaugurates Ojol Commission Cut to 8 Percent, Here is the Response from Gojek & Grab
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has officially signed Presidential Regulation (Perpres) No. 27 of 2026 on the Protection of Online Transport Workers.
This regulation brings major changes to the income scheme for online motorcycle taxi (ojol) driver partners.
In an announcement delivered exactly on International Labour Day at Monas Field on Friday (1/5/2026), Prabowo emphasised that the applicator’s commission is now limited to a maximum of 8 percent.
Responding to the policy, Chief Executive Officer of PT GoTo Gojek Tokopedia Tbk., Hans Patuwo, stated that his company will always comply with government regulations.
“GoTo always complies with government regulations, including the directives conveyed by President Prabowo Subianto regarding the protection of online transport workers as stipulated in Presidential Regulation No. 27 of 2026,” Hans said in his official statement on Friday (1/5/2026).
“Currently, we will conduct a review to understand the details, implications, and necessary adjustments in accordance with the regulation. We will continue to coordinate with the government and all relevant stakeholders,” Hans added.
On the other hand, Grab Indonesia’s Chief Executive Officer, Neneng Goenadi, gave a similar response.
Grab stated that it respects the government’s vision in efforts to improve public welfare, but it still needs to study the official text of the Perpres.
“Currently, we are still awaiting the official issuance of the Presidential Regulation so that we can review and study the details of the directive further,” Neneng said.
Neneng also noted that this commission structure change is a very significant step for the digital platform’s business model.
“The proposed commission structure change is a fundamental change to the way digital platforms function as a marketplace. We will collaborate with the government and relevant stakeholders to strive to implement this change,” Neneng said.
For information, before this Perpres was issued, the average applicator commission was at 20 percent.
With this new regulation, it is hoped that the purchasing power and welfare of driver partners throughout Indonesia can increase significantly.
