Prabowo Inaugurates Electric Bus-Truck Assembly Plant in Magelang, Central Java
President Prabowo Subianto inaugurated the PT VKTR Sakti Industries electric commercial vehicle assembly plant in Magelang Regency, Central Java, on Thursday (09/04/2026). This inauguration represents an important milestone in strengthening the national electric vehicle industry while supporting the transition to clean energy.
Upon arriving at the site, Prabowo first conducted a direct inspection of various electric vehicle products manufactured at the facility. During the inspection, the President viewed several units, including 12-metre electric buses used by DAMRI for TransJakarta services, 8-metre electric buses for BLU UPTD Trans Semarang, and models and components of the Tri Sakti bus.
Additionally, Prabowo inspected various industry-based electric vehicles, such as electric forklifts, electric transporters used by PT Perhutani Alam Wisata, and electric heavy-duty trucks used by PT Semen Indonesia Logistik.
The inspection was guided by VKTR’s Chairman Anindya Novyan Bakrie and accompanied by President Director of VKTR Sakti Industries Anindra Ardiansyah Bakrie, who explained the technological developments and production capacity of the plant to the Head of State.
After the inspection, Prabowo proceeded to the main inauguration venue. The event began with the singing of the Indonesian national anthem Indonesia Raya, followed by a prayer reading, remarks from the Chairman of PT VKTR Sakti Industries, a video launch screening, and the President’s address.
“With the grace of Bismillahirrahmanirrahim, on this afternoon of Thursday, 9 April 2026, I, Prabowo Subianto, President of the Republic of Indonesia, hereby inaugurate the VKTR Electric-Based Commercial Vehicle Assembly Plant,” Prabowo stated.
As a symbol of the inauguration, Prabowo pressed the siren and signed the commemorative plaque.
National electric car
In his address, Prabowo expressed great pride and joy in VKTR’s ability to produce electric-based buses and trucks. He then revealed the government’s plan to produce electric-based sedan cars in 2028.
“This is very, very important. And indeed, our plan is that I hope by 2028, we will mass-produce electric sedans. So now we already have electric buses, electric trucks, and their capabilities are also quite substantial and commendable,” he said.
Prabowo said he received reports that VKTR can produce 10,000 electric buses with a Domestic Component Level (TKDN) of 40 per cent. According to him, the TKDN level will increase to 60 per cent in 2028 and 80 per cent in 2030.
“This is something very commendable. So there is already a bus industry, a truck industry,” said Prabowo, who is also the General Chairman of the Great Indonesia Movement Party.
Furthermore, the head of state thanked Central Java Governor Ahmad Luthfi, who attended representing the Central Java Provincial Government, for ordering dozens of buses. As well as the DKI Jakarta Government through PT Transjakarta.
“We hope that other provincial governments will also support and purchase our nation’s own products throughout the country. The State Secretary will note down the governors who do not order domestic products, buses, trucks, and so on. The TNI is also instructed to buy domestic products. So this is commendable, I immediately remember,” said Prabowo.
