Prabowo Inaugurates 218 Bridges in Disaster-Affected and Remote Areas

President of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto inaugurated a total of 218 bridges successfully constructed within 2.5 months across various disaster-affected and remote regions throughout Indonesia. The inauguration was conducted virtually on Monday, 9 March 2026.

Prabowo stated that the bridge construction represents tangible evidence of state presence reaching the smallest regions, particularly for communities that have faced access limitations due to disasters and geographical conditions.

“The inauguration of 218 bridges completed within 2.5 months is an extraordinary achievement. This accomplishment demonstrates the sincere commitment of all TNI personnel and officials in areas that desperately need these bridges,” Prabowo said.

Prabowo emphasised that the government will not allow residents in villages and remote areas to face access limitations that could endanger their safety, especially for children who must cross rivers to attend school.

“The Indonesian Government is present at the smallest levels, reaching villages and hamlets. The Government will not abandon its people in difficulty,” he stated.

On the same occasion, Prabowo also expressed appreciation to TNI personnel and all parties involved in bridge construction. According to him, the rapid work demonstrated that the TNI is a people’s army always ready to assist communities.

“I am proud that the Indonesian National Armed Forces have proven to the people that the TNI is a people’s army. The TNI is a fighting force always prepared to sacrifice for the nation and its people,” he said.

Furthermore, Prabowo emphasised that the bridge construction, although some structures measure only tens of metres in length, nonetheless holds strategic significance for communities in remote areas.

The infrastructure enables residents to conduct activities more safely, including allowing children who no longer need to cross rivers under dangerous conditions.

“Now I sleep more peacefully, because children in remote villages no longer need to cross rivers under circumstances that endanger their safety,” he noted.

Prabowo formally inaugurated 218 bridges comprising 77 Bailey bridges, 59 Armco bridges, and 82 pioneer bridges constructed across various regions of Indonesia.
