Prabowo Inaugurates 1,151 km of Regional Roads Across Indonesia
President Prabowo Subianto has inaugurated the construction of 1,151 kilometres of regional roads spread across 37 provinces throughout Indonesia, carried out under the 2025 Presidential Instruction (Inpres). In his remarks, Prabowo stated that road construction is not merely an infrastructure project, but a primary instrument to drive the people’s economy into the most remote villages. “Regional roads are the economic arteries of the people. It is through these roads that farmers’ harvests, plantation products, fisheries output, and various other community products can move from villages to markets, distribution centres, industrial zones, and vice versa,” Prabowo said in Sampang Regency, East Java, on Tuesday, 23 June 2026. Prabowo emphasised that Indonesia, as the world’s largest archipelagic nation, requires an infrastructure network capable of connecting production centres with markets quickly and efficiently. According to him, the quality of connectivity will greatly determine national economic competitiveness, particularly in reducing logistics costs, which have long been a development challenge. Prabowo explained that regional road construction has a direct impact on food security, energy security, and equitable development between regions. For this reason, the government has made basic infrastructure development a key priority in driving inclusive economic growth. “We are determined that no region should be left behind simply because of limited access. We must lower logistics costs for all our people and our economy,” he asserted. The statement serves as a strong signal that the Prabowo administration intends to ensure the benefits of development are not concentrated solely in large cities but also reach remote areas previously hampered by transport access. In addition to inaugurating the completed roads, the President also urged all regional governments to maintain the quality of the existing infrastructure so that its economic benefits can be felt over the long term. He stressed that every rupiah originating from the people’s money must deliver tangible results for public welfare. “All spending of the people’s money must be carried out as effectively as possible. The good quality of this development must be maintained,” he said. Prabowo also expressed his appreciation to the Ministry of Public Works, regional governments, and all parties involved in completing the road construction projects.
