Prabowo Inaugurates 1,061 Merah Putih Village Cooperatives in Seven Months
President Prabowo Subianto inaugurated the operationalization of 1,061 Merah Putih Village and Urban Cooperatives (KDKMP) in Nganjuk Regency, East Java, on Saturday (16/5). This achievement was realized by the government in just seven months since the physical construction began in November 2025.
The President emphasized that these cooperatives are now ready to operate with complete facilities, including buildings, warehouses, digital systems, and logistics. This initiative is part of the government’s broader strategy to strengthen local economic independence from the village level.
“The physical construction began around November 2025 until now, which is less than six months. November, December, January, February, March, April, May, seven months. In seven months, we have operationalized 1,061 cooperatives,” said President Prabowo, as reported by Antara on Saturday (16/5).
The President explained that the number 1,061 was chosen based on a suggestion from the Director-General of Agrinas Pangan Nusantara, Joao Angelo De Sousa Mota, who referred to the President’s lucky number. “The Director-General remembered that I like the number eight. So, instead of 1,300, let’s make it 1,061. Because one plus six is seven, and seven plus one is eight,” he said.
Specifically, the distribution of the 1,061 KDKMPs includes:
Each KDKMP unit employs 17 workers, all of whom are local residents from the village.
The government, through the state-owned enterprise PT Agrinas Pangan Nusantara, is currently building an additional 25,000 cooperative units. An ambitious target has been set to ensure that a total of 30,000 KDKMPs can operate fully throughout Indonesia by August 2026.
The Coordinating Minister for Food Affairs, Zulkifli Hasan, reported that there are currently more than 9,000 buildings and warehouses that are physically ready. The President views this as a significant achievement for Indonesia in building an integrated people’s economic system.
Several high-ranking state officials were also present at the inauguration, including the Minister of Home Affairs, Tito Karnavian, the Commander of the Indonesian National Armed Forces, General TNI Agus Subiyanto, the Chief of the National Police, General Polisi Listyo Sigit Prabowo, and the Speaker of the Regional Representative Council (MPR), Ahmad Muzani.
