REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – President Prabowo Subianto inaugurated the operation of 1,061 Merah Putih Village/Urban Cooperatives (KDKMP) as part of the government’s efforts to strengthen the local economy. During the inauguration ceremony in Nganjuk Regency, East Java, on Saturday, May 16, 2026, President Prabowo highlighted that the KDKMP had been prepared and their physical construction had begun in thousands of locations since November last year.

“In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful, on this Saturday, May 16, 2026, I, Prabowo Subianto, President of the Republic of Indonesia, hereby inaugurate the operation of 1,061 Merah Putih Village and Urban Cooperatives,” said the President before pressing the inauguration button.

The President expressed that the presence of KDKMP in various locations would help boost the Indonesian economy starting from the village level and support village independence. He targeted that at least 20,000 similar cooperatives could be operational starting in August this year.

“From these thousand, I was informed that in August we will jump to inaugurate 30,000 cooperatives. If it doesn’t reach 30,000, if it only reaches 20,000, I say that 20,000 is also an achievement that I think is rarely found in other countries,” said the President.

On this occasion, the President was accompanied by Coordinating Minister for Food Affairs Zulkifli Hasan, Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian, TNI Commander General TNI Agus Subiyanto, National Police Chief General Polisi Listyo Sigit Prabowo, Speaker of the MPR Ahmad Muzani, and a number of other government officials.

The inauguration marked that 1,061 cooperatives are ready to operate, with details of 530 KDKMP units in seven regencies in East Java and 531 KDKMP units in eight regencies/cities in Central Java.

Each KDKMP employs 17 workers, all of whom come from the local village. The government, through the state-owned enterprise PT Agrinas Pangan Nusantara, is currently building 25,000 other cooperative units as of May 2026. The government also targets 30,000 KDKMP to be completed and fully operational by August 2026.
