Prabowo in Japan: Meeting the Emperor and Bringing Back Souvenirs of Hundreds of Billions in Investments
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - President Prabowo Subianto is currently on an overseas visit to Japan since Sunday (29/3/2026).
Prabowo is scheduled to meet with Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi on Tuesday (31/3/2026) today.
Previously, he had already met with Japanese Emperor Naruhito and a number of business leaders in a business forum in the Land of the Cherry Blossom.
So far, there are several agreements that Prabowo has successfully brought back from the results of his meetings on the first day.
The two held a one-on-one meeting, after Prabowo attended and was personally welcomed by the Emperor at the Imperial Palace in Japan.
The meeting discussed several matters, primarily strategic issues that are mutual interests of both countries.
In addition, the discussions were also coloured by exchanges of light-hearted stories.
In addition to meeting with Emperor Naruhito, President Prabowo met with the Crown Prince of Japan, who is the younger brother of Emperor Naruhito, Fumihito.
The meeting was then concluded with a lunch hosted between Prabowo, Emperor Naruhito, and Crown Prince Fumihito at Rensui North, Imperial Palace.
In that meeting, Prabowo was accompanied by his only child, Ragowo Hediprasetyo, Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto, Foreign Minister Sugiono, and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya.
The discussions also covered relations between citizens living in those countries.
The Emperor hopes that Indonesian citizens living in Japan are treated well by the Kingdom.
He also asked Indonesia not to hesitate to convey requests if there are matters that are joint concerns regarding citizens.
