JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - President Prabowo Subianto conveyed to Japanese tycoons that the Indonesian government aims to produce 100 gigawatts of solar-based electricity within three years.

The ambitious government target was stated by Prabowo at the Japan-Indonesia Forum in Tokyo on Monday (30/3/2026).

“In three years, we want to achieve 100 gigawatts of solar energy. For us, this is urgent given the current situation,” said Prabowo, as quoted from the official statement.

Prabowo revealed that the Indonesian government wants to promptly utilise electricity from solar energy.

“We have a plan and are determined to realise it soon,” Prabowo stated.

Prabowo said that the project is one of the agendas for major reforms in Indonesia.

He wants Indonesian partners in the international community to know the direction of the governance reforms and economic transformation being pursued by his government.

“We want to uphold the supremacy of law. Our people demand good, clean, and efficient governance,” Prabowo said.

The former Commander of the Special Forces Corps (Kopassus) stated that Indonesia is now focusing on downstreaming and industrialisation projects.

He emphasised that Indonesia can no longer rely solely on exporting raw materials to other countries.

According to him, Indonesia must obtain the highest economic value from its own natural resources and minerals.

“We can no longer be satisfied with just exporting raw materials without added value. Our important minerals are strategic assets. Our mineral resources must be protected for future generations,” he asserted firmly.
