Prabowo Impressed by Miangas Residents' Knowledge of Cabinet Ministers' Names
President Prabowo Subianto was impressed by the residents of Miangas Island, who knew the names of his cabinet ministers. Prabowo praised the people of this northernmost outer island of Indonesia, which borders the Philippines.
The moment occurred when the Chairman of the Gerindra Party visited Miangas, Talaud Islands, North Sulawesi, on Saturday, 9 May 2026. Prabowo first introduced Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries Sakti Wahyu Trenggono to the community. “He is responsible for sea and fisheries issues,” said Prabowo.
He then conveyed that the government is providing one vessel to Miangas. In addition, said Prabowo, the government will build a Merah Putih Fishermen’s Village on the island with various facilities for fishermen.
Next, Prabowo introduced other cabinet members, including Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs Meutya Hafid, Minister of Health Budi Gunadi Sadikin, and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sugiono.
Prabowo then asked if the Miangas residents knew Defence Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin when introducing him. “Defence minister, this is important, do you know the defence minister? Who is the TNI General? Sjafrie?” asked Prabowo.
“Sjamsoeddin,” the residents replied.
“Oh, this is because they are from Sulawesi, so they know,” Prabowo responded.
Prabowo then asked if they knew Minister of Public Works Dody Hanggodo. “Who is this?” asked Prabowo.
“Pak Dody,” the residents answered together.
“How do you know everyone, even though it’s an outer island. Wow, this is really impressive,” said Prabowo.
He also mentioned the role of the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs, which he believes helps people in remote areas stay informed. “Komdigi, you’re great,” said Prabowo.
Prabowo visited Miangas after attending the 48th ASEAN Summit in Cebu, Philippines.
Miangas is the island closest to the Indonesia-Philippines border. It is located in Talaud Islands Regency, North Sulawesi. Prabowo landed at Miangas Airport on Saturday, 9 May 2026, around 10:45 WITA. The Gerindra Party Chairman was accompanied by Foreign Minister Sugiono and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya.
Prabowo arrived in Miangas via direct flight from the Philippines. “He is returning to the homeland today, but before going to Jakarta, he stopped by for some agendas there (Miangas),” said Sugiono as broadcast by the Presidential Secretariat on Saturday.
Prabowo’s arrival in Miangas was welcomed by several Merah Putih Cabinet ministers, including Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia, Defence Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin, and Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries Sakti Wahyu Trenggono.
In addition, Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs Meutya Hafid, Minister of Public Works Dody Hanggodo, Minister of Health Budi Gunadi Sadikin, and Deputy Commander of the Indonesian National Armed Forces General Tandyo Budi Revita were present.
