Prabowo Impressed by Marsinah Museum in Nganjuk

President Prabowo Subianto appeared impressed as he toured the Museum and Guest House of Labour Hero Marsinah in Nglundo Village, Nganjuk, East Java, on Saturday morning (16/5).

Prabowo began his visit by entering Marsinah’s former home and was greeted by Marsinah’s family and local residents. During the visit, Prabowo also took the time to greet the family and residents who had gathered in the area.

After greeting the residents, Prabowo toured the house and saw firsthand Marsinah’s room, which has been preserved in its original condition.

After that, Prabowo entered the museum building together with the President of the Confederation of Indonesian Trade Unions, Andi Gani Nena Wea, the Governor of East Java, Khofifah Indar Parawansa, and the Minister of Manpower, Yassierli.

Prabowo appeared impressed as he listened to Andi Gani’s explanation about the construction of the museum, which was completed in just four months without using state budget funds.

“We built it in just 4 months, we built a museum as well as a guest house for pilgrims and we made it free,” Andi told Prabowo while accompanying the museum tour.

Inside the museum, Prabowo saw a number of Marsinah’s belongings, from clothes to the last bag used by the labour activist.

Prabowo also appeared to read carefully the writing on the walls of the museum which explained Marsinah’s life journey and her struggle in fighting for workers’ rights.

In addition, Prabowo saw a digital documentation of the Marsinah case displayed on an interactive screen in the museum.

Prabowo was also seen stopping for quite some time when he saw the part of the museum that contained testimonies from Marsinah’s colleagues as well as a record of her struggle in fighting for workers’ rights, including demands for daily wage increases, holiday allowances, and the right to maternity leave and worker health.

Not only that, Prabowo also saw a number of other belongings such as a bicycle that Marsinah used during her lifetime.

He also toured the guest house which is provided free of charge for pilgrims who come to the Marsinah Museum.

In one corner of the museum, Prabowo saw the certificate of appreciation as a National Hero which he awarded to Marsinah on November 10, 2025, displayed in the exhibition area.

Andi Gani had previously said that the Marsinah Museum and Guest House were built as an educational space for the struggle of workers as well as a place to stay for pilgrims.

“The guest house that we created is for pilgrims who do not get accommodation. It is free of charge, but only for a maximum of one night, so that it does not become a place to live,” said Andi, Friday (15/5).

Marsinah was a female labour activist who died in 1993 and is known as a symbol of the struggle for workers’ rights in Indonesia. Last year, the government officially awarded the title of National Hero to Marsinah through a Presidential Decree signed by Prabowo.
