JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - President Prabowo Subianto has reminded that general elections (Pemilu) are the appropriate mechanism for replacing the government.

He made this statement during a briefing in a working meeting with members of the Red and White Cabinet at the Palace in Jakarta on Wednesday (8/4/2026).

“If there is a government deemed not good, then replace that government; there is a proper mechanism, peacefully. It can be through general elections, no problem,” Prabowo said in his briefing on Wednesday.

“Our history has seen several changes: Bung Karno stepped down peacefully, Pak Harto stepped down peacefully, Gus Dur stepped down peacefully, through processes, not through violence. So, brothers and sisters, trust the system built by our nation’s founders,” Prabowo stated.

The Head of State mentioned that he often receives criticism from various parties. However, Prabowo regards such criticism as a form of warning from others about his government’s performance.

“This is an issue for us; we must be vigilant and accept those corrections. If we are slandered or vilified, regard it as a warning so that we stay alert,” Prabowo said.

“It cannot be denied that we have achieved tangible milestones, tangible achievements,” Prabowo added.

Despite having achieved several accomplishments, Prabowo acknowledged that the country faces uncertainties due to conflicts in other parts of the world.

“Alhamdulillah, our government, in which you, brothers and sisters, are part of the government I lead, has been in place for one and a half years; alhamdulillah, we have been able to control the direction of development, the direction of our nation’s state,” Prabowo said.
