Prabowo: If a Leader is Incompetent, They Should Be Removed!
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - President Prabowo Subianto has affirmed that leaders who are unable to carry out their duties properly should be evaluated and removed from their positions.
This was conveyed by Prabowo while attending the simultaneous mass corn harvest and the groundbreaking ceremony for 10 food security warehouses of the National Police, Saturday (16/5/2026).
Prabowo likened leadership within an organization to a football team.
“If a football team wins, then the manager is good, the coach is good, the team captain is good, right? The contract is extended. Isn’t that right?” Prabowo said, as quoted from the YouTube broadcast of the Presidential Secretariat, Saturday.
“If it’s not working, remove them. It’s simple. This is what life is,” he continued.
“So, don’t expect to be the captain of a football team, losing again and again, and still want the contract extended, that won’t happen,” he said.
On that occasion, Prabowo cited the example of Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran Sulaiman, whom he considered successful in accelerating the target of food self-sufficiency.
“I had to give him the main star award, not on National Heroes’ Day, not on August 17th, but if he succeeds again this year, how will I give him another star? What kind of star will it be?” said the Head of State.
Prabowo said Listyo Sigit had been successful in maintaining the integrity of the MBG program initiated by his administration.
“I see that Mr. Listyo has been successful, so what can I say? I see the MBG as being great and the most organized. This isn’t me just praising, I’m also stingy when it comes to giving awards, but I want to be objective,” he said.
He emphasized that the food sector is a strategic matter that determines the future and sovereignty of the nation.
“Whatever you do to secure and increase our food production, it means you are securing our future, our sovereignty,” he concluded.
