Prabowo: I Will Inaugurate the Marsinah Museum
President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, has confirmed that he will inaugurate the Museum of Workers’ Struggle, named the Marsinah Museum. Prabowo is reported to inaugurate the Marsinah Museum on Saturday (2/5).
He revealed this while attending the 2026 International Workers’ Day or May Day commemoration at the National Monument (Monas) in Jakarta on Friday (1/5).
“Our brothers and sisters have elevated Mother Marsinah as a national hero. And this month too, I will head to Nglundo Village, Nganjuk, East Java, to inaugurate the Museum of Workers’ Struggle named the Marsinah Museum,” said Prabowo.
Marsinah was a female activist and worker from Nganjuk who became an icon of the struggle for workers’ rights in Indonesia. Marsinah was murdered in May 1993 after leading a strike demanding wage increases at her workplace.
In his speech, Prabowo also expressed thanks for the invitation to the 2026 May Day event.
“I thank you for the invitation to join you all. This is an honour. I believe the working class has always supported me. I became president because of the workers, farmers, and all workers across Indonesia.”
“I am determined, I swear to fight for the interests of the Indonesian people, especially those whose lives are difficult. That is my duty. Our government is not afraid, not hesitant in defending Indonesia’s interests,” said Prabowo.
Prabowo’s arrival was enthusiastically welcomed by thousands of workers filling the Monas area. Prabowo arrived at Monas around 08:38 WIB. He was seen wearing a brown safari suit complete with a hat. Prabowo greeted the workers from atop the RI 1 vehicle that brought him.
After getting out of the car, Prabowo patiently greeted and shook hands with the enthusiastic workers who wanted to meet the 8th President of the Republic of Indonesia directly. Prabowo then ascended the stage for the 2026 May Day event at Monas.
Shortly after going on stage, Prabowo threw his hat towards the workers. Prabowo then danced on stage accompanied by the song “Kamu Ngga’ Sendirian” by the band Tipe-X.
