Prabowo: I Shake My Head and Feel Sad Every Day Receiving Reports of Corrupt Officials
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - President Prabowo Subianto said he was sad and concerned because there were still many state officials who committed irregularities and stole people’s money.
This was conveyed by Prabowo when delivering a speech at the inauguration of the Ibu Marsinah Museum and the Transit House in Nganjuk Regency, East Java, Saturday (16/5/2026).
“I shake my head, I’m sad that every day I receive reports of officials who are corrupt. I’m sad,” said Prabowo, quoted from the Setpres YouTube broadcast, Saturday.
He admitted that he was disappointed because a number of officials who were involved in cases were actually people who had been given trust and important positions by him.
Prabowo then recounted his experience when he received a report from the Head of the Financial and Development Supervisory Agency (BPKP) regarding alleged irregularities by an official who was said to be close to him.
According to Prabowo, the Head of the BPKP had asked for direction on whether the examination should continue or not because he was worried that the official being examined had a close relationship with the president.
“He asked for instructions, whether the examination could continue or not, because he knew that this person was close to the president,” said Prabowo.
However, Prabowo emphasized that there would be no special treatment for anyone who was suspected of committing violations.
He said that officials who were given honor should be more careful in carrying out their duties.
According to him, officials should not feel immune from the law or be above the state after obtaining a position.
“Instead of being given authority and trust, they feel arrogant, feel superior, and feel that this country is stupid,” said Prabowo.
Prabowo also reminded that in this digital era, various forms of irregularities would be easily detected.
“I’m surprised that in this day and age there are still people who try it. Now there is digital technology, there are all kinds of things now, it will definitely be discovered,” he said.
