Jakarta, VIVA – President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto attended the International Labour Day or May Day 2025 commemoration held at the National Monument (Monas) on Friday, 1 May 2025.

On that occasion, Prabowo conveyed his thanks to the workers who have always supported his government.

“I express my thanks for the invitation to me to be present today with all of you brothers and sisters. This is an honour for me; I feel that the working class has always supported me several times, and I feel I became president because of the support from workers, farmers, fishermen, and all workers across Indonesia,” said Prabowo.

Prabowo admitted his determination to fight for the interests of all Indonesian people, especially the workers whose lives are still difficult.

He emphasised that he would not hesitate to defend the interests of all Indonesian people.

“I am determined, I swear to fight for the interests of all Indonesian people, especially those whose lives are still difficult; that is my duty and the duty of the government I lead, and that is our resolve. We will not be intimidated. We will not hesitate to defend the interests of the Indonesian people,” he said.

The Head of State also admitted he could not bear to see children and mothers in Indonesia going hungry to the point of being unable to provide milk.

Not only that, Prabowo also could not bear his ministers, who were entrusted by the public, instead collaborating with dishonest and greedy businessmen.

“I cannot bear it; government officials entrusted by the people instead collaborate with rotten businessmen, with greedy businessmen,” he said.

He also touched on the Domestic Workers Protection Bill (RUU PPRT) that was recently passed. Prabowo emphasised respect for the hard work of workers in Indonesia.

He said that the PPRT Law was also the first in Indonesian history.

“The PPRT Law has never existed before; all this time, domestic workers have been paid unclear wages. Now, for the first time in the history of our NKRI, we have passed the PPRT Law. I am grateful, I am moved, I was invited in the midst of you brothers,” said Prabowo.

“Because I realise, I feel, and I respect the struggle of you brothers and sisters who work with their bodies, with their sweat, with their hands; they are noble people,” he concluded.
