Prabowo: I Am Not Urging Anyone to Hate, but We Must Learn from History

Jakarta — President Prabowo Subianto has urged all Indonesians to recognise the wealth of the nation and not always submit to other countries, especially those that seize the rights of others. ‘Let us not be overly captivated by nations that enrich themselves by plundering the wealth of other nations,’ Prabowo said as he handed over the Macro Economic Framework and Key Fiscal Policy Guidelines (KEMPPKF) 2027 in a plenary session of the DPR in Jakarta on Wednesday, 20 May 2026. ‘Do not be self-deprecating, do not always admire what they teach us when they do not practice what they preach,’ he added. Prabowo stressed that he was not calling for hatred of others. Nevertheless, he argued, we must learn from history, where leaders take pride in their country. ‘I am not asking us to hate anyone; I am not asking to hate other nations, no, I am asking to learn, but we must learn from history,’ he said. From a well-known adage, Prabowo argued that those who do not learn from history will be punished by history and will re-experience dark chapters of the past. ‘Our founders understood that if leaders in Nusantara are weak, if leaders in Nusantara are not united, then Nusantara’s wealth will continue to be taken by powers outside Nusantara,’ he concluded.
