Prabowo Hosts Former Thai PM Thaksin Shinawatra at Kertanegara Residence
President Prabowo Subianto received a visit from former Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra at his private residence on Jalan Kertanegara, Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta, on Wednesday evening. Thaksin, who served as Thailand’s premier from 2001 to 2006, was accompanied by his daughter Paetongtarn Shinawatra, who also previously held the office of prime minister.
According to Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya, the meeting occurred just hours after Prabowo had bid farewell to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Yogyakarta International Airport. Teddy noted that the friendship between Prabowo and Thaksin has been established for a long time, and the gathering served as an effort to strengthen communication networks and personal ties with world leaders.
“In a relaxed atmosphere, the President and Thaksin exchanged views on various global strategic developments and regional dynamics,” Teddy said in a written statement. He added that Thaksin’s current role as an advisor to the Danantara Investment Management Agency reflects the close cooperation between the two figures.
This meeting follows a similar engagement just two days prior, when Prabowo hosted former British Prime Minister Tony Blair at the same residence. Blair, who served three consecutive terms from 1997 to 2007, also holds a position within the Danantara agency. Teddy described the meeting with Blair as a moment for two old friends to reconnect and share perspectives on global strategic issues.
