Prabowo Hosts Former Thai PM Thaksin Shinawatra and His Daughter

President Prabowo Subianto received two former Prime Ministers of Thailand, Thaksin Shinawatra and his daughter Paetongtarn, on Wednesday evening (8/7). The Cabinet Secretariat revealed the meeting via its official Instagram account, stating that Prabowo hosted Thaksin and Paetongtarn at his private residence on Jalan Kertanegara, South Jakarta.

The visit took place after Prabowo had seen off Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Yogyakarta International Airport. The Cabinet Secretariat noted that the gathering included Paetongtarn Shinawatra, who served as Thailand’s Prime Minister from 2024 to 2025.

During the warm and cordial meeting, Prabowo and Thaksin exchanged views on various global strategic developments and regional dynamics. The Cabinet Secretariat emphasised that such meetings allow the Indonesian government to strengthen friendship networks and communication with world leaders, as part of efforts to broaden cooperation and bolster Indonesia’s position amid global shifts.

The post also highlighted Thaksin’s current role in Indonesia, noting that beyond leading Thailand from 2001 to 2006, he now contributes as a member of the Danantara Advisory Board.
