Prabowo hopes Indonesia will mass-produce electric sedans by 2028
Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto hopes that Indonesia will be able to mass-produce electric sedans by 2028 as part of the development of the national electric vehicle industry.
The President conveyed this during a speech at the inauguration of the electric commercial vehicle assembly plant owned by PT VKTR Mobilitas Technology in Magelang, Central Java, on Thursday.
“Indeed, our plan is that I hope by 2028 we will mass-produce electric sedans,” said Prabowo.
The President expressed this hope in line with the government’s efforts to strengthen the domestic electric-based automotive industry capacity.
To support this plan, Prabowo said the government is preparing to establish a company to produce electric sedans.
“We are also forming a company to produce sedans. Electric sedans,” said Prabowo.
Previously, the Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology Brian Yuliarto stated that President Prabowo has asked universities to support the acceleration of solar power plant (PLTS) development and electric vehicle conversion.
Brian explained that this support is carried out through research, studies, and research results from universities to help accelerate the utilisation of renewable and clean energy, particularly PLTS, which is aimed at replacing diesel-fuelled power plants that are still considered expensive.
Brian noted that these efforts are being undertaken because diesel-fuelled power plants and the use of fuel-based vehicles still depend on oil fuel supplies, while fuel prices are considered high and can have a significant impact on the economy.
President Prabowo has also ordered the construction of solar power plants (PLTS) with a capacity of 100 gigawatts as part of accelerating the electrification programme and national energy self-sufficiency.
