Prabowo Hints at Destry as Permanent BI Governor? Minister Says Only the President Knows

Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi declined to speculate on whether President Prabowo Subianti intends to nominate Destry Damayanti as the permanent Governor of Bank Indonesia (BI). He stated that the decision is known only to the President.

This response came after Prasetyo was asked about President Prabowo’s jesting remarks, which were perceived by some as a signal regarding Damayanti’s position. ‘Only he knows,’ Prasetyo said briefly, laughing. He further confirmed that the President has not yet decided on a candidate to be submitted to the House of Representatives (DPR).

The speculation arose during a mass mortgage signing event in Batang, Central Java, where President Prabowo corrected a minister who introduced Destry Damayanti as the Senior Deputy Governor. Prabowo clarified that she is currently the acting Governor of BI, before jokingly asking the audience, ‘Seems alright, yes?’ and adding that the final decision rests with the DPR.
