Prabowo Highlights Middle East War: We Must Be Ready to Face Difficulties

President Prabowo Subianto has warned of potential difficulties arising from the war between Iran and the United States-Israel alliance in the Middle East region.

He stated that the impact of the war will not only be felt in Indonesia, but the entire world will also be shaken. “Brothers and sisters, the entire world is experiencing tremors, the entire world. As a result of the war in the Middle East, frankly speaking, we must be ready to face difficulties,” Prabowo said during a bridge inauguration ceremony on Monday (9 March).

Prabowo described the current global situation as filled with uncertainty and dangerous dynamics. He noted that conflicts have erupted in several places, including the Middle East, and also reminded that there is a war in Europe between Ukraine and Russia.

Whilst Prabowo acknowledged that Indonesia is geographically far from the centre of conflict, he cautioned that what happens in one region can have impacts on other regions. “But again, we are grateful that Indonesia actually has strength. We have great strength,” he said.

At the same time, Prabowo stated that Indonesia has taken the right course amid the heating conflict in the Middle East. He noted that Indonesia continues to uphold the principle of free and active foreign policy and does not align with any bloc.

Prabowo said Indonesia respects all powers and all nations in the world. “Unity in diversity domestically, and also internationally. We respect all nations, religions, races, and ethnic groups. This is what allows Indonesia to now enjoy peaceful conditions,” he concluded.
