Prabowo highlights low teacher pay amid economic leakage
“We understand that our teachers’ salaries are insufficient, we understand the job shortage happening right now, along with extreme poverty. We understand all that,” he said during the Plenary Cabinet Meeting at the State Palace, Jakarta, on Monday.
According to Prabowo, these various issues represent challenges that the government must resolve.
He said the public’s mandate to the government is intended to address those challenges and find solutions. Prabowo also acknowledged that he fully understood the scale of the problems after taking office.
Prabowo described large-scale economic leakage as one of Indonesia’s core challenges, saying it stems from practices that harm the country and prevent it from maximizing the benefits of its rich natural resources.
“There is a distortion in our economy; there has been a significant outflow of our wealth, thousands of trillions, hundreds of billions of dollars every year,” he outlined.
The president then highlighted the need to stop state asset leakage, saying it affects the government’s ability to address fundamental problems and improve people’s welfare.
“If the leakage of hundreds of billions of dollars of Indonesian wealth is allowed to continue, we can imagine what the fate of our nation will be. Therefore, I remind you that we are mandated to resolve this problem,” he emphasized.
On that occasion, Prabowo also stated that the government had resolved more than 100 strategic issues during the first 18 months of his administration.
He said these achievements provide the government with a strong foundation to further improve public services and enhance public welfare.
The mid-year plenary Cabinet meeting was held to evaluate the performance of the Red and White Cabinet ahead of the President’s state address marking the 81st anniversary of Indonesia’s Independence.
In the session, Prabowo also outlined several achievements and challenges facing the government in the fields of the economy, food security, and public welfare.
