President Prabowo Subianto extended Lunar New Year greetings to all Indonesians celebrating the occasion. The message was conveyed through his social media account on X (@prabowo) on Tuesday, 17 February 2026.

"Happy Lunar New Year 2577 Kongzili, 17 February 2026," said the Gerindra Party chairman. In his post, Prabowo also expressed his hopes for the new year.

Prabowo expressed his wish that the Lunar New Year would bring prosperity to all Indonesians. "May it bring health, peace, and prosperity for us all," said the former senior officer of the Indonesian Armed Forces.

In addition to Prabowo, Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya also conveyed Lunar New Year greetings. "May this Year of the Fire Horse bestow upon us abundant fortune and good luck. Gong Xi Fa Cai!" said Teddy through the Cabinet Secretariat's official Instagram account.

At the time of extending their greetings, Prabowo and Teddy were on a state visit to the United States to meet US President Donald Trump. Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia also accompanied President Prabowo when they departed from Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base in East Jakarta for Washington D.C. on Monday, 16 February 2026.

The government designated two days of national holiday for Lunar New Year this year, spanning 16–17 February 2026. According to the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin), this year's Lunar New Year holiday would boost economic productivity and increase household consumption.

Kadin Deputy Chairman for Regional Autonomy Sarman Simanjorang estimated that monetary circulation during the two-day Lunar New Year holiday could reach Rp 9 trillion. "This year's Lunar New Year holiday will boost economic productivity and increase household consumption," said Sarman in a written statement on Monday, 16 February 2026.

The estimate was based on a number of activities undertaken by the public during Lunar New Year. The first calculation considered Indonesia's ethnic Chinese population of 11.25 million people. This population figure, Sarman said, was equivalent to 2.8 million families assuming each family comprised four members.

Sarman noted that families typically celebrate Lunar New Year with a family dinner and by sharing angpao (red envelopes) with one another. He said that if each family spent Rp 1 million on Lunar New Year celebrations, the potential monetary circulation was estimated to reach Rp 2.812 trillion.

Meanwhile, the calculation of monetary circulation reaching up to Rp 9 trillion was also supported by other spending sectors. During Lunar New Year, Sarman said, spending on tourism, intercity transport, and retail also increased.
