People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) Chairman Ahmad Muzani revealed that President Prabowo Subianto is paying significant attention to the formulation of the State Policy Guidelines (PPHN) as a development compass that applies across administrations. This was conveyed following a meeting between MPR leaders and the Head of State at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, on Monday (3/8). During the meeting, the MPR leadership submitted the PPHN concept that had been compiled by an MPR-formed team. The concept, which was previously still a draft, was also discussed with Prabowo to align views regarding the nation’s long-term policy direction. “We submitted the concept of the State Policy Guidelines, which last year was still a draft and under discussion by the team we formed. On this occasion, we handed the concept over to the President of the Republic of Indonesia and discussed with him several matters relating to the State Policy Guidelines,” Muzani said at the Presidential Palace. He stated that the discussion took place in an open and productive atmosphere. According to him, Prabowo in principle supports the formulation of the PPHN as a guideline that applies not only to the current administration but also serves as a reference for administrations in subsequent periods. “The President, in principle, leaves it to the People’s Consultative Assembly to make the State Policy Guidelines a compass for cross-administration governance. This is because the PPHN is not intended only for a temporary government, but rather to be a direction for the journey of governance across various periods,” he said. Muzani explained that the Head of State fully entrusted the constitutional mechanism within the MPR to establish the PPHN as a guideline for future governments. According to him, Prabowo also responded positively to various ideas contained in the concept. In addition to discussing the direction of national development, Prabowo also paid attention to a number of issues deemed important, including the democratisation process and the administration of regional governance. Muzani said Prabowo assessed that the democratic system at the regional level requires large costs, has its own characteristics, and drains a lot of energy. On the other hand, Prabowo also highlighted the fact that many regional heads are entangled in corruption cases. Therefore, this issue is considered to need attention in the formulation of future policy directions. “One of them is that the President considers the process of administering regional government, which is carried out through a democratic process, to be expensive, unique, and very exhausting. However, he is also very concerned about various events occurring in the regions. Many regional heads are trapped in corruption crimes. Therefore, he requested that this issue be given serious consideration,” Muzani concluded.
