Prabowo Guarantees Continuation of MBG Programme Until Completion, No Projects Left Unfinished!
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - President Prabowo Subianto is committed to completing the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) programme in full. He guarantees that no MBG programme will be left unfinished. He emphasised this commitment amid widespread pessimism from various parties doubting the programme’s successful implementation.
“Our brothers and sisters have already produced tens of millions of MBG, and we will continue until completion. We will address the many shortcomings. Many are afraid it will succeed,” said Prabowo during the groundbreaking of 13 strategic downstreaming projects, quoted on Thursday (30/4/2026).
According to the head of state, the MBG programme has an extraordinary impact because it reaches more than 60 million beneficiaries, with distribution five times a week. The programme is also enjoyed by vulnerable groups such as pregnant women and the elderly.
“Where is there a country that can feed more than 60 million people, five times a week, where pregnant women have meals delivered, elderly and disabled people have meals delivered. Show me where, which country,” stated Prabowo.
Although Prabowo acknowledged that perhaps large countries like China could do it. However, he continued, China started it earlier. It is proven that currently, many countries want to learn about the implementation of MBG in Indonesia.
Thanks to MBG, said Prabowo, farmers now have a guarantee that their harvest will be purchased by the Food Security Agency. There will no longer be stories of farmers forced to sell their produce to middlemen for fear it won’t sell.
“We have already felt the benefits. Farmers whose harvests were not bought before. As soon as they harvest mangoes, the mangoes are not taken, they rot in the orchard, the harvest is not absorbed. Middlemen come and slash prices,” explained Prabowo.
