Prabowo Greets the Merdeka Farmers’ Action and APPSI Crowd

Präsident Prabowo Subianto greeted participants in a rally by Tani Merdeka Indonesia and the All-Indonesia Market Traders Association (APPSI) in Jakarta on Wednesday, 20 May 2026. The presence of the country’s leader was met with enthusiasm by those in attendance, who carried the spirit of strengthening a people-centred economy. Representatives from labour organisations, Ojol, and students from Semmi, PII, LMND were also present. In a warm and orderly atmosphere, Prabowo was seen saluting the protesters from a vehicle moving through the crowd. The demonstrators returned the greeting by raising their hands, unfurling organisational flags, and voicing their support directly. Action Coordinator Aiman Adnan said the moment symbolised the closeness between national leadership and groups that have long been key players in the economy of the people. “For us, the President’s greeting to the protesters is not merely a ceremonial gesture, but shows that the voices of farmers, market traders and ordinary people remain heard in national development,” said Aiman. He added that the presence of the protesters also carried a spirit to continue safeguarding the strengthening of the people’s economy that benefits farmers, market traders, small business actors, and wider society. “We hope the spirit of building a just economy is kept alive. Farmers and market traders are the foundation of the people’s economy and deserve stronger room to grow,” he added. The demonstration, which involved Tani Merdeka Indonesia and APPSI, proceeded in an orderly manner and served as a space for expressing aspirations as well as support for an economic development agenda regarded as attentive to the rakyat sector. Through this momentum, Tani Merdeka Indonesia and APPSI reaffirm their commitment to continue participating in strengthening the people’s economy and maintaining collaboration between communities and government in realising shared welfare.
