Prabowo made the remarks at the Regional Shrimp Harvest Festival at a region-based shrimp farming pond in Kebumen, Central Java, on Saturday, 23 May 2026. He began by noting that Indonesia has achieved food self-sufficiency. ‘Meat, this is what we are working on; perhaps in four to five years we will be meat self-sufficient. Our food security is relatively safe,’ he said. Prabowo then pointed to the current global situation, where conflicts persist. He expressed gratitude that Indonesia is not involved: ‘There are many disputes in the world now, wars everywhere. We are grateful to the Almighty that we are not involved,’ he added. However, Prabowo warned that vigilance must be maintained. He called on all parties to help safeguard the nation’s wealth and sovereignty: ‘But we must be vigilant. We must have strength, which is why we are building our defence to protect our wealth.’ He said the government is currently working to manage the nation’s wealth autonomously, which, in his view, is in line with the mandate of the 1945 Constitution. ‘Now our wealth is managed by us; we do not want our wealth continually manipulated by certain people, by certain countries, and this is already being done,’ he stated. ‘This must be done; it is the mandate of the Constitution and it is for the prosperity of all Indonesians, not a handful,’ he added.
