Prabowo Grateful Indonesia Has Danantara Valued as Equivalent to SWF

The Investment Management Agency (BPI) Danantara has now operated for one year since its establishment at the beginning of President Prabowo Subianto’s administration. Prabowo expressed gratitude that Indonesia possesses an agency equivalent to a Sovereign Wealth Fund (SWF) globally.

This was stated by Prabowo whilst providing direction at Danantara Indonesia’s first anniversary celebration in Central Jakarta on Wednesday (11 March 2026). He even referred to Danantara as one of the sixth-largest SWFs in the world.

“We are grateful, yes, we now have an agency that can be equated with a Sovereign Wealth Fund in the world. We are grateful that Indonesia now has a Sovereign Wealth Fund perhaps the sixth, seventh largest in the world, yes,” Prabowo said.

Prabowo acknowledged his gratitude because Danantara’s management has been assessed as performing well over the past year. According to him, the management of state wealth through this institution has been on the correct path.

“With good management, especially with the right will, yes, with political will, with the right spirit, results are already visible,” he said.

He even received a report that Danantara’s Return on Assets (RoA) increased by 300 per cent over the past year. Nevertheless, Prabowo believed that the current RoA achievement of around 5 per cent remains far from the ideal target.

A well-performing company should ideally have an RoA standard of 10 per cent, even 12-15 per cent. He asked Danantara’s management to increase the RoA so that more assets are returned to the state.

“If good is 12 per cent, if excellent is 15 per cent. We should have a good target of 10 per cent. But we understand that in the first years we might not be able to achieve that,” Prabowo explained.

On the other hand, Prabowo also acknowledged that Danantara bears a heavy responsibility. This institution is entrusted with managing and consolidating all state assets as national wealth.

He explained that the magnitude of this responsibility aligns with the meaning of the name Danantara, which is an abbreviation of Daya Anagata Nusantara. Daya means strength or energy, whilst Anagata means the future.

“So Danantara must protect and manage the strength and energy of our nation for the future. That is how important Danantara is. This is Danantara’s first anniversary. Of course we are always grateful,” Prabowo said.
