Prabowo gives relaxed response to Trump's quip about not wanting to face him
Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto gave a relaxed response to US President Donald J. Trump's remark that he would not want to "go up against" the Indonesian leader.
When asked for his reaction to Trump's comments at the Gaza Board of Peace (BoP) Summit at the Donald J. Trump Institute of Peace in Washington DC on Thursday (19 February), Prabowo Subianto immediately laughed.
"Trump said he's afraid of you, Sir?" a journalist asked.
President Prabowo replied casually, "No, no, that's not the case," he said with a smile.
Earlier, at the Board of Peace forum in Washington DC on Thursday (19 February), Trump openly praised the decisiveness and leadership of Indonesia's president.
In his address before world leaders and national delegations, Trump described Prabowo Subianto as a tough and respected figure.
"He is a man I really like. He is very tough. I wouldn't want to go up against him," Trump said.
President Trump also highlighted the enormous population of Indonesia under Prabowo's leadership. He admitted to being surprised upon learning that Indonesia's population numbers in the hundreds of millions.
According to Trump, leading a nation as large as Indonesia carries immense responsibility. He assessed that Prabowo was carrying out that duty well.
The praise was delivered in the context of discussions on the contributions of nations worldwide towards ceasefire efforts and sustainable peace in Gaza.
The forum emphasised the importance of genuine commitment from global leaders to achieving peace that is not merely temporary, but long-term and equitable.
