Prabowo: German President's Visit Important Amid Global Dynamics

Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has stated that the visit of President of the Federal Republic of Germany Frank-Walter Steinmeier is an important momentum for both countries amid current global dynamics. In a press statement at Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, on Monday, President Prabowo said the visit holds deep significance for Indonesia as it demonstrates the good relations between the two countries. “This visit is also an important momentum amidst global dynamics that are increasingly full of uncertainty. Strengthening and sustaining the Indonesia-Germany partnership is certainly a priority,” Prabowo said. On that occasion, Prabowo also noted that the visit marks a series of commemorations for the 75 years of bilateral relations between the two countries, which will be officially observed in 2027. To mark this, both leaders discussed enhanced cooperation in the fields of economy, investment, energy transition, energy security, education, and employment. Meanwhile, President Steinmeier stated his visit to Indonesia is very important as the global community faces a situation where several conflicts are occurring in various regions. “In a situation like this, a partnership such as the one between Germany and Indonesia means a great deal. This is a partnership between two countries mutually committed to a steadfast basis of the rule of law, and that is the bond between our nations,” he said. He also referred to the 2012 Jakarta Declaration, when the countries, represented by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and German Chancellor Angela Merkel in July 2012, agreed on a number of cooperation initiatives in defence, economy, health, as well as research and technology. “I am convinced we must deepen this partnership further, including in the fields of climate, education, research, and culture,” said Steinmeier.
