President Prabowo Subianto held a meeting with TNI Commander General Agus Subianto, the service chiefs of staff, and Defence Minister Sjafrie Sjamsuddin.

During the meeting, Prabowo discussed a number of matters, including adjustments to recruitment requirements for members of the Dayak tribe who wish to become TNI soldiers.

The meeting took place in Hambalang, West Java, on Saturday (29/8/2026), running from late afternoon into the evening. Also in attendance were Minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology Brian Yuliarto, Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi, and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya.

The moment was shared by Teddy via the Cabinet Secretariat’s Instagram account. Teddy explained that President Prabowo also discussed post-disaster handling, ranging from post-earthquake response to forest and land fires (karhutla).

“In the meeting, President Prabowo requested updates on several matters, including adjustments to recruitment requirements for interior Dayak tribes who wish to become TNI soldiers, handling of several disasters including the post-earthquake situation in Flores, the eruption of Mount Merapi, and the handling of forest and land fires in Indonesia, particularly in Kalimantan and Sumatra,” said Teddy on the official Cabinet Secretariat Instagram account @sekretariat.kabinet, as quoted on Sunday (30/8/2026).

Teddy also conveyed that President Prabowo instructed that Babinsa (village-level non-commissioned officers) in every village be given understanding and education regarding the dangers of forest burning. This is so that communities can collectively help preserve forests and land.

“The President wants education on the dangers of forest burning to be delivered by Babinsa in villages to residents so that we can jointly protect our forests and land,” he added.
