President Prabowo Subianto gathered several ministers from the Merah Putih Cabinet at his residence in Hambalang, Bogor. The meeting discussed accelerating the management of waste into energy, or Waste to Energy (WTE), in various regions of Indonesia.

The attending ministers included Minister of Investment and Downstreaming Rosan Perkasa Roeslani, Minister of Finance Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahdalia, Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Brian Yuliarto, and Minister for State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi. During the meeting, Rosan presented updates on the Waste to Energy programme.

“Danantara Chief Rosan Roeslani reported on the progress of the Waste to Energy (WTE) programme, or the management of waste into energy, across Indonesia, particularly in major and densely populated cities such as DKI Jakarta, Tangerang, Bandung, Semarang, Surabaya, Medan, Bali, and other cities in Indonesia,” stated Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya in his remarks on Wednesday (25/3/2026).

Further, Teddy explained that the Waste to Energy programme is expected to serve as a strategic solution in addressing waste problems that have not been optimally handled thus far. Additionally, the programme will support the provision of sustainable alternative energy.

Teddy conveyed that Prabowo desires quick and integrated steps from the central government to address waste issues in the regions. Prabowo hopes that long-standing waste piles, which have been problematic, can be promptly cleared, eliminated, and utilised as an energy source, particularly electricity.

“President Prabowo wants the Central Government to immediately manage waste that has long been poorly handled in the regions, to be quickly cleaned up, eliminated, and utilised to become energy, especially electrical energy,” Teddy added.
