Prabowo Forms Task Force to Accelerate Renewable Energy Implementation, Bahlil to Lead
President Prabowo Subianto is pressing for a rapid rollout of renewable energy across his administration. He has formed a dedicated task force, to be chaired by Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia.
‘We have just concluded a limited meeting with the President, with discussions focusing more on the implementation of clean and renewable energy,’ Bahlil said after the restricted meeting with President Prabowo at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Thursday, 5 March 2026.
The government will build solar photovoltaic plants with a capacity of 100 gigawatts to support energy self-sufficiency. Vehicles that still run on petrol are also targeted for conversion to electric power.
‘Within this plan, including the 100 gigawatts for solar PV, renewables, and accelerating the conversion kit for our motor vehicles — some 120 million motorcycles that run on petrol — we will attempt to carry out a phased conversion to electric motorcycles,’ he said.
Bahlil said the implementation of renewables is targeted to be realised within 3-4 years, or sooner. To speed up the target, Prabowo formed the task force.
‘In relation to this, the President is keen that the implementation be carried out immediately, and God willing we will do so in a relatively short period. The President indicated a maximum of three to four years, or even faster if possible. And for that reason the President has formed the Task Force to expedite this,’ he added.
