JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - President Prabowo Subianto has formed a Task Force (Satgas) to implement clean energy in Indonesia. The task force will oversee the conversion of Diesel-Fired Power Plants (PLTD) to Solar Power Plants (PLTS) and the conversion of conventional motorcycles to electric motorcycles.

The formation of the Task Force was announced by Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia after a limited meeting with President Prabowo Subianto at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Thursday (5/3/2026).

‘The plan includes the 100 gigawatts for PLTS, as well as renewable energy, and also acceleration of the conversion of our motor vehicles – about 120 million motorcycles that use petrol – we will try to implement this gradually towards electric motorcycles,’ Bahlil said on Thursday.

Bahlil disclosed that he has been mandated by President Prabowo to serve as the coordinator or chair of the Task Force.

Prabowo wants clean energy to be implemented in Indonesia within 3-4 years.

‘The President is keen on immediate implementation and, God willing, we will proceed in a relatively short period. The President said it could be up to 3 to 4 years, or even faster,’ he said.

‘We can reduce subsidies, because converting from PLTD to PLTS will improve electricity subsidy efficiency while also accelerating the use of motorbikes and electric cars,’ he explained.

Under the plan, the government will roll out subsidies for electric motor conversions, as has been done so far.

According to Bahlil, about 200,000 electric motorcycles are converted from petrol-powered motorcycles to electric each year.

However, subsidy formulations are still being discussed further.

‘Something like that (subsidy), but we will look for a good formula. The Satgas was only announced today. So after this we will carry out the tasks of the Satgas so that the planning is more precisely done,’ he added.
