Prabowo Forms Special State-Owned Enterprise for Export of Strategic Natural Resource Commodities, DPD Chairman Says It Will Not Disrupt Market Mechanisms

Jakarta — The chairman of the Regional Representatives Council (DPD RI), Sultan Bachtiar Najamudin, believes the government has no intention of disrupting market mechanisms through the establishment of PT Danantara Sumber Daya Indonesia (DSI). He emphasised that the DPD RI supports the creation of a new state-owned enterprise that will manage the export of strategic natural resource commodities.

‘The government does not intend to disturb the market mechanisms that have operated until now,’ Sultan said at the Parliament Complex, Jakarta, on Friday (21 May 2026).

‘This is a serious effort to fulfil the mandate of Article 33 of the 1945 Constitution to optimise state revenues and to ensure that the benefits of natural resource management are shared with the people in a just and equitable manner,’ he explained.

Nevertheless, Sultan asked the government to preserve the right of exporting businesses to operate and to involve them in formulating export policies through PT DSI. He reminded that the government still needs the support of business players amid geopolitical and geo-economic challenges in the global landscape.

‘We must acknowledge that exporters of strategic commodity products play a significant role and contribute greatly to the national economy,’ Sultan said. ‘We believe the government is committed to maintaining the right to do business and the participation of exporters in building the national economic ecosystem,’ he concluded.

Under the regulation, export of commodities such as palm oil, coal, and iron alloys must be conducted through a state-owned enterprise designated by the government as the sole exporter.

‘The sale of all our natural resource outputs, starting with palm oil, coal and iron alloys, must be conducted through a state-owned enterprise designated by the Government of the Republic of Indonesia as the sole exporter,’ Prabowo said at the DPR building in Senayan, Jakarta, on Wednesday (20 May 2026).

Meanwhile, Minister of Investment/Head of BKPM Rosan Roeslani said the formation of PT DSI aims to increase transparency in export transactions and to prevent under invoicing and transfer pricing practices.
