Prabowo Forms Energy Transition Task Force, Bahlil Appointed as Chair

Jakarta – President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, has given a new assignment to the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), Bahlil Lahadalia. Bahlil has been tasked with leading the energy transition task force, which will focus on power generation and vehicle conversion. The assignment was conveyed to Bahlil after a limited meeting with Prabowo at the Presidential Palace in Central Jakarta on Thursday, 5 February 2026. ‘The President has formed a task force team to accelerate the work. Earlier we were given the assignment by the President as chair of the task force to implement and translate rapidly,’ Bahlil told reporters at the Presidential Palace Complex, Central Jakarta, on Thursday, 5 March 2026. Bahlil explained that the energy transition task force will first carry out the conversion of diesel-fired power plants to solar power plants (PLTS). He said this would affect electricity subsidy efficiency. ‘By converting from PLTD, diesel to PLTS, it will lead to efficiency in our electricity subsidies and at the same time we will push the adoption of motorcycles and electric cars,’ he added. President Prabowo, he noted, aims for the energy transition to be completed quickly within a period of 3–4 years. ‘Implementation will begin immediately and God willing we will do it in a short time. The President earlier said that a maximum of 3 to 4 years, even faster if possible,’ Bahlil said.
