President Prabowo Subianto has formed a Task Force to accelerate the conversion of electric motorcycles and the construction of Solar PV plants (PLTS). This was disclosed by Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia after a limited meeting at the State Palace, Thursday (5 March 2026). Bahlil explained that the meeting discussed the implementation of clean and renewable energy. He outlined that the discussions related to building 100 gigawatts of solar PV capacity and accelerating the conversion of conventional motorcycles to electric for 120 million motorcycles. According to him, the president wants the implementation to be carried out promptly. Therefore, he said, the president formed a special task force to expedite the process. “And for that reason, the president has formed the Task Force team to accelerate this,” Bahlil said. “And earlier we were given the assignment by the president as the Chair of the Task Force to implement and translate this quickly,” he added. It is understood that the meeting was also attended by Investment and Industrial Downstream/Head of BKPM Rosan Roeslani, Minister of Education, Culture, Research and Technology Brian Yuliarto, and President Director of PT Pindad (Persero) Sigit P. Santosa. Bahlil explained that this effort will be pursued to accelerate the energy transition. It could also reduce subsidies by converting from PLTD (diesel-fired power plants) to PLTS (solar PV plants). “This will yield efficiency in our electricity subsidies, and at the same time we will push for faster distribution of electric motorcycles and cars,” Bahlil said.
