JAKARTA — President Prabowo Subianto has instructed government officials to refrain from organising lavish open house celebrations during Eid al-Fitr 2026.

The directive was announced during a Cabinet meeting at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Friday, 13 March 2026.

“We must also set an example with our open house celebrations — they should not be overly extravagant,” said Prabowo.

The President reminded officials that many citizens remain affected by natural disasters. “Our siblings in disaster-affected areas; we must set an example for the people with this situation,” he stated.

However, Prabowo emphasised that the restriction does not mean officials should cancel open house celebrations entirely, as economic activity must continue.

“But we also should not completely shut down all events. If we do, our economy will not function either,” Prabowo added.

Muhammadiyah has already determined that Eid al-Fitr falls on 20 March 2026, whilst the government will still hold a session to confirm the date (sidang isbat).
