Prabowo Expresses Sadness and Disappointment at Reports of Corrupt Officials
President Prabowo Subianto has expressed his sadness upon receiving reports regarding a number of government officials allegedly involved in abuse of power and misuse of public funds. He affirmed that he will take strict action against anyone found guilty of wrongdoing, including those close to him. The statement was made by Prabowo while delivering his address at the inauguration of the Marsinah Museum in Nganjuk Regency, East Java, on Saturday.
“I shake my head, I am sad that every day I receive reports of officials who are corrupt,” said Prabowo.
According to the President, he feels disappointed because a number of officials who were given trust and important positions are allegedly abusing their authority after holding those positions.
“I am sad that people whom I appointed, people whom I mentored, people whom I gave the honour of holding important positions, once they are in office, they become corrupt, they steal public money,” he said.
Prabowo said that he often receives reports from the Financial Supervisory Agency and Development (BPKP) regarding the results of examinations of a number of officials. He also requested that the examination process continue without discrimination, including against those who have close ties with him.
“There are no exceptions, whether they are Prabowo’s people or not, close to me or not, it doesn’t matter. If there are indications, continue the investigation,” Prabowo emphasized.
The President also reminded that every official who is entrusted with a position must be responsible to the state and the people. According to him, public office is an honour that must be maintained with integrity and caution.
Prabowo also affirmed that he will not tolerate any Gerindra Party cadres who are proven to be involved in legal cases. He mentioned that a number of his party’s cadres have been processed and detained as a form of commitment to upholding the law.
For this reason, the Head of State asked all government officials to carry out reforms and cleanse the institution of corruption and abuse of power. Specifically, Prabowo also reminded every head of agency to ensure that there are no officials under them who support illegal activities or harm the community. (E-3)
