President Prabowo expressed gratitude to citizens of other faiths who have respected Ramadhan during remarks at a Full Cabinet Session at the State Palace in Jakarta on Friday. “I also wish to thank our siblings of other religions, who have respected the month of Ramadhan well. This has always been the pride and strength of the Indonesian nation — that we conduct our respective religious observances in an atmosphere of harmony, familial accord, and mutual respect,” Prabowo stated.

The President noted that mutual respect in conducting worship is a point of national pride, reflecting Indonesia’s ability to maintain harmony and familial atmosphere amid diversity. He cited the recent centenary commemoration of Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) at Gajayana Stadium in Malang, East Java, as an exemplary demonstration of tolerance. During that event, NU leaders reported that several churches in Malang had opened their premises to allow NU members to rest and provided parking facilities for worshippers.

Prabowo assessed this conduct as reflecting the spirit of unity in diversity embodied in the national motto Bhinneka Tunggal Ika, which must be continuously maintained. “The leaders of Nahdlatul Ulama conveyed that churches in Malang helped open their grounds, allowed NU members to rest in church courtyards, and provided their car parks. This — this is our excellence, our goodness, our strength. Bhinneka Tunggal Ika, different yet one — this we must preserve,” he stated.

The President also noted that in approximately a week, Muslims will celebrate Eid al-Fitr of 1447 Hijriah. He expressed hope that all worship conducted during Ramadhan will be accepted by Allah and that Muslims will be reunited with Ramadhan in the coming year.
