Prabowo Expresses Condolences Over Death of Former Defence Minister Ryamizard Ryacudu

Jakarta (ANTARA) — President Prabowo Subianto expressed condolences over the death of former Defence Minister General (Ret.) Ryamizard Ryacudu. “To Allah we belong and to Him we return. Our condolences on the passing of General (Ret.) Ryamizard Ryacudu,” as quoted from President Prabowo’s official Instagram account (@prabowo) post on Sunday evening. The black-and-white post also featured a photo of Ryamizard alongside his role as Indonesia’s 25th Defence Minister from 27 October 2014 to 20 October 2019. Ryamizard Ryacudu died on Sunday at 2:03 PM WIB at RSPAD Gatot Soebroto Hospital in Jakarta. Head of the Defence Ministry’s Information Bureau, Colonel Arm Rico Ricardo Sirait, stated Ryamizard passed away after receiving treatment in the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU) at RSPAD. “It is confirmed that General (Ret.) Ryamizard Ryacudu passed away today, Sunday, 31 May 2026 at 2:03 PM WIB at RSPAD,” Rico said in Jakarta on Sunday. The Indonesian Army stated Ryamizard’s passing is a significant loss to the TNI and the nation due to his contributions to national defence and military service. Head of the Army Public Affairs Office (Kadispenad), Brigadier General Donny Pramono, said Ryamizard was a soldier who dedicated his life to the nation through various strategic assignments within the military and government. During his military career, Ryamizard held various strategic positions, including serving as Army Chief of Staff (KSAD) from 2002 to 2005. Under his leadership, the Army strengthened professionalism, discipline, and readiness to safeguard national sovereignty. After completing his military service, Ryamizard was appointed Defence Minister from 2014 to 2019, where he played a key role in strengthening the national defence system and enhancing the country’s defence capabilities amid a dynamic strategic environment. Donny described Ryamizard as a firm, courageous, humble leader with a strong commitment to national interests. Ryamizard’s departure leaves a legacy of service that will be remembered in the history of the Indonesian Army and the nation’s journey.
