President Prabowo Subianto has expressed his profound condolences on the passing of Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, who served as Emir of Qatar from 1995 to 2013. The President conveyed his sympathies directly by signing the book of condolence at the Qatari Embassy in Jakarta on Wednesday.

According to a press release from the Presidential Secretariat, the Head of State arrived at the location around 12:40 p.m. Western Indonesian Time. He was received by Foreign Minister Sugiono and the Ambassador of Qatar to the Republic of Indonesia, Sultan bin Mubarak Saad Al-Dosari.

In his message, President Prabowo wrote a prayer and expressed sympathy on behalf of the entire Indonesian nation. “On behalf of the people and government of the Republic of Indonesia, I extend our deepest condolences on the passing of His Highness Father Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani. May Allah the Almighty grant him the highest place in His presence,” he wrote.

The President’s presence at the Qatari Embassy served as a symbol of Indonesia’s high regard for the late figure. The moment also reinforced the close diplomatic relations and long-standing friendship between Indonesia and Qatar.

Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani was reported to have passed away on Sunday at the age of 74. The late Emir was a central figure who led Qatar for nearly two decades before handing over leadership to his son, Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, in 2013.
