Prabowo Explains Why He Attended the DPR RI Plenary Session in Person
Chairman of the House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, presided over the 19th Plenary Session of the Fifth Session Year 2025-2026 at the Nusantara Building, Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, on Wednesday, 20 May 2026. The session was among the agenda items to present the Macro Economic Framework (KER) and the Core Policies of the Fiscal Policy Framework (PPKF) of the State Budget Draft (RAPBN) 2027, delivered directly by President Prabowo Subianto.
President Prabowo Subianto explained his reasons for requesting to deliver the KER-PPKF RAPBN 2027 in person, rather than via the relevant minister: ‘I deliberately chose to stand before you all to present directly the direction of our country’s economy and fiscal policy, as an introductory discussion in the preparation of the 2027 state budget (APBN 2027).’ He emphasised that the physical conflicts occurring in Europe and the Middle East at present have domino effects that materially impact domestic stability, so fiscal management cannot be conducted in the usual way. ‘We as a nation face geopolitical and geo-economic challenges full of conflict, tension and uncertainty; wars are taking place in many places, even in Europe and the Middle East, in regions that are distant from us but have very large impacts on our lives,’ he said. ‘Therefore, given the conditions we face, I believe the President of the Republic of Indonesia must present directly the core ideas on the economy and the management of the state,’ Prabowo concluded.
The plenary session, attended by 451 members of the House, was also attended by Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka along with a line-up of ministers and leaders of the Red and White Cabinet (Kabinet Merah Putih). Puan stated that the session was opened with President Prabowo in attendance. She explained that the KER-PPKF 2027 is an initial strategic blueprint that not only functions to outline a healthy and sustainable APBN posture, but also anticipates various domestic and global economic risks. Puan hopes the KER-PPKF 2027 will form the foundation for growth that is high-quality and inclusive for all segments of society. ‘That growth should not only be oriented to a high GDP figure, but also to job creation, income growth for citizens, reducing poverty and narrowing inequality,’ she added. Puan assessed that the direct presence of President Prabowo is an important political and economic signal amid current pressure on the economy. The Palace explained the reasons the President is delivering the KER-PPKF RAPBN 2027 directly to the DPR, to unite the nation’s strength. The President will deliver the KER-PPKF RAPBN 2027 at the DPR as part of National Awakening Day to strengthen the economy.
