Chairman of the Indonesian People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) Ahmad Muzani said President Prabowo Subianto continues to pay close attention to the tense situation in the Middle East following the United States and Israel’s attacks on Iran. Muzani said Prabowo has also briefed former presidents and party leaders on Indonesia’s position in the Board of Peace (BoP), the US-initiated body.

‘BoP is part of an effort to accelerate the Palestinian people’s independence and the reconstruction, rehabilitation of Palestine. And that is the main objective of BoP’s creation. However, there is this Iran issue, which I think is what he explained more clearly last night in the meeting with former presidents, former foreign ministers, and party chairs,’ Muzani told reporters at the Presidential Palace, Jakarta, on Wednesday (4 March 2026).

Could Prabowo evaluate Indonesia’s position in BoP? Muzani recalled Indonesia’s non-permanent membership in BoP. According to him, Indonesia could withdraw from that international board at any time. ‘For Indonesia, entering and exiting BoP is something that can happen, as has been said by presidents. We could withdraw at any time, but again that must be by mutual agreement,’ he said.

Muzani said Prabowo had discussed a lot about the Middle East conflict with national figures. In the meeting held at the Jakarta Istana, the president provided detailed explanations about the latest developments in the geopolitics that are heating up.

‘From President Jokowi, President SBY, former Vice President JK, former Vice President Ma’ruf Amin, as well as several former foreign ministers, also offered views. Some views were critical, sharp, some offered suggestions, and some were more contemplative. All views were received by the president well,’ he added.

It is known that Prabowo Subianto hosted a gathering with former presidents and vice presidents, party chiefs, and senior ministers. Prabowo sat with President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) and President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) at the Istana Merdeka, Jakarta, on Tuesday (3 March).

Also present were Vice Presidents Jusuf Kalla (JK), Boediono, and Ma’ruf Amin; party leaders Surya Paloh, Bahlil Lahadalia, Muhaimin Iskandar, Al Muzzamil, Zulkifli Hasan, and Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY).

Also in attendance were cabinet ministers: Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto, Minister of Investment and Downstream Industry Rosan Roeslani, Social Affairs Minister Saifullah Yusuf, Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Abdul Mu’ti, Minister of Communication and Information Brian Yuliarto, Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian, Minister of Foreign Affairs Sugiono, Minister of Defence Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin, and Head of the State Intelligence Agency (BIN) Herindra, among others; Chief Justice ST Burhanuddin. The Chairman of the MPR Ahmad Muzani attended the meeting. The Speaker of the House of Representatives Puan Maharani was also seen attending together with Deputy Speaker Sufmi Dasco Ahmad.
