Prabowo Ensures Rapid Response to NTT Earthquake, Sends 50,000 Aid Packages
President Prabowo Subianto has sent presidential assistance in the form of 50,000 basic food packages. The aid was dispatched to the Maumere area of East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) on 15 August 2026.
The news was announced directly via the Instagram account @presidenrepublikindonesia, as seen by detikcom on Sunday (16/8/2026). The assistance is intended to meet the needs of earthquake victims in NTT.
“Presidential assistance in the form of 50,000 basic food packages has been sent to Maumere, East Nusa Tenggara, on 15 August 2026, to help meet the needs of communities affected by the earthquake disaster,” Prabowo wrote.
Prabowo has also dispatched his ministers to assist with post-disaster handling. He expressed hope that the post-earthquake response in NTT would proceed smoothly.
“The President has also assigned the Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture, the Minister of Home Affairs, the Minister of Public Works, the Head of the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), the Head of Basarnas, as well as teams from Bulog, PLN, Pertamina, and Telkom to go directly to the field and ensure that the response is carried out properly,” Prabowo said.
Prabowo also confirmed that the government continues to move quickly and in a coordinated manner in handling the impact of the earthquake in NTT. “The government continues to move quickly and in a coordinated manner in dealing with the impact of the disaster and ensuring that affected communities receive the assistance and basic necessities they need,” he added.
51 People Killed as a Result of the NTT Earthquake
An earthquake with a magnitude of 7, previously reported as 7.7, shook East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) yesterday. As of this morning, the death toll from the powerful earthquake has reached 51 people.
“As of 09.00 this morning, the total number of fatalities is 51,” said Head of Basarnas Air Marshal TNI M Syafii during a press conference on Sunday (16/8).
