President Prabowo Subianto has revealed that the government follows up on all suggestions provided by the public, including those coming from social media such as TikTok. He made this statement at the closing ceremony of the National Sarasehan of the Indonesian Science, Technology, and Industry Convention (KSTI), attended by 2,600 participants comprising rectors and academics, at the Jakarta Convention Centre on Sunday. During the event, he said that proposals from universities are guaranteed to be received and will be acted upon to address existing issues in society. “I have received a list of proposals and a list of questions that were submitted, quite a lot of them. I promise I will pay attention to each one. Ladies and gentlemen, let alone a proposal from a professor, a proposal from a child in a village that reaches me directly via TikTok or whatever, I will immediately follow it up,” Prabowo explained. He said that such openness reflects the government’s attitude in facing every issue transparently. Prabowo also stated that technological progress enables the government to respond to problems more quickly. One example is social media, which allows issues in remote areas to be identified and addressed. “Technology can make that happen. A difficulty in a village in Nias can be known directly and we can resolve it quickly,” he added. However, he noted that technology does not always bring positive impacts, citing nuclear technology as one that can pose risks. For this reason, Prabowo asked the academic community to delve deeper into how to utilise technology, specifically how it can be optimised to support the nation’s progress. On that occasion, he also touched on the success of a country, which involves having the courage to acknowledge difficulties, find the root of the problem, and work hard to discover solutions. “Because I believe that difficulties must be faced. Difficulties must be faced, and we must be brave enough to face difficulties, brave enough to acknowledge difficulties, and work hard to find solutions to those difficulties,” he continued.
