Prabowo Emphasises Zero Tolerance for Irregularities in Free Nutritious Meal Programme
President Prabowo Subianto has reaffirmed the government’s determination to safeguard integrity and ensure that the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) programme achieves its intended objectives. He emphasised that there must be no loopholes for irregularities or the abuse of trust in the programme’s implementation.
These remarks were made during his attendance at the ‘Building Indonesia’s Future Generations Through Nutrition’ event at the Sentul International Convention Centre (SICC), Bogor Regency, West Java, on Wednesday. Addressing thousands of participants, including the Indonesian Development Driver Graduates (SPPI), MBG kitchen managers, and programme partners, Prabowo revealed that the decision to replace certain parties previously entrusted with responsibilities in the programme was not an easy one.
In the decision-making process, he recalled the advice of his late father, Prof. Sumitrade Djojohadikusumo, who taught him to always prioritise the interests of the people. “If one day you find yourself confused or in doubt, remember, always side with your people,” Prabowo said, recalling his father’s message.
He explained that these steps were taken after receiving various reports regarding deficiencies, anomalies, and alleged irregularities in the programme’s execution. According to him, the quality of leadership is the primary key determining the success or failure of an organisation. “A good leader results in a good organisation. A bad leader results in a bad organisation, especially if the leader is dishonest or incompetent,” Prabowo explained.
During the event, he also highlighted the vital role of the SPPI as the spearhead for the MBG programme’s success. He noted that SPPI graduates have been provided with specialised education and training to lead and manage MBG kitchens across various regions, upholding the values of service, integrity, and patriotism.
The Head of State emphasised that the government will not hesitate to take action against anyone proven to have abused the people’s trust. He stated his readiness to strengthen supervisory functions and support law enforcement agencies to ensure the programme meets its targets. “I do not want the people’s money to be stolen. There will be no exceptions,” Prabowo declared.
Prabowo also reminded all kitchen managers and SPPI members to tighten field supervision and avoid any practices that could damage public trust in the MBG programme. He concluded by stating that the success of the programme is a collective responsibility to guarantee a better future for Indonesia’s next generation.
