President Prabowo Subianto has said that economics is a simple science and should not be treated as a divine or overly complex discipline. He made the remarks during his speech at the 28th anniversary celebration of the National Awakening Party (PKB) in Jakarta on Thursday.

Prabowo highlighted that Indonesia’s wealth is not being enjoyed by its people because it is being taken abroad. “How can we provide a decent life for our people if our wealth is continuously taken and brought overseas, not enjoyed by our own people? This is illogical,” he said.

He then likened economics to managing a simple business. “So, ladies and gentlemen, do not consider economics to be some sort of divine science. Economics is simple. If you open a stall, that is economics. One cup of coffee, what is the capital, what is the selling price, the difference is profit, and the profit is saved. Indonesia’s wealth is being taken abroad and not saved because it is not kept here,” he explained.

Prabowo also praised the National Awakening Party (PKB), noting that it is always the first party to invite him to its anniversary celebration each year. The event was also attended by Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka and several party leaders, including Golkar Chairman Bahlil Lahadalia, Democrat Chairman Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono, PKS President Al Muzammil Yusuf, and PAN Chairman Zulkifli Hasan.
